Nice audience recording!
Now that the soundboard is up, it's really interesting to listen to this superb audience recording. Thanks Nakguy! Great job capturing the laid back vibe that is a first of three New Year's show at the Bill Graham. A sleeper in my opinion. Wonderful Box, Baby Blue and HelpFranklin's. Listen to the soundboard for clarity, but this recording captures the real spirit of that evening. We all are a lucky bunch indeed to be graced with these shows. Thanks Furthur! You guys are a great band.

Yass! Yass!
Holy shit that Phil Bomb at when Slipknot came back went was the craziest thing I've ever heard/felt Phil do. I looked straight at him an i swear he looked just as surprised and giddy as we were! This and NYE were my favorites of the run, enjoyed the second night but this one just blew my lid off!

Great time had by all
A really great show. Good people, not too crowded and best of all of course, great music.
Agreed that the music was very tight. Some great versions of Box of Rain and UBC.
My favorite part is a Phil bomb in the return of Slipknot, and the drums which they made rotate throughout the venue (speakers in the back). Totally cool.
*** So days later listening to this again. I think I am going to have vote the UBC the best I have heard the band do. The solos by John and Jeff and just amazing, the transtions perfect and singing really nice.

Thanks for the Recording!/Great Show!
Thanks for the nakguy for this wonderful recording! This is the only version to-date to my knowledge, and I did some looking around earlier. Thanks nakguy for delivering the goods!
Everyone has a slightly different take on what is a 5 star show. First, this is a fine recording, certainly to my untrained ears. Great clarity and separation...
Second, this is a breakthrough show in some important ways. There is the Big Bad Blues, which is great, and a great Cassidy. This is also more Philling than most shows...the Slipknot mentioned, but also Help on the Way.
Maybe the best thing to me is the really sweeping Weather>Let it Grow sequence. This is a distinctly Furthur sound with the background vocals and the dynamics in Let it Grow. Same for the Baby Blue.
Others are hitting more shows than me these days, I expect, but I think this is better than the average or even above average show these days. This sits in the shadow of two other great Furthur shows, but it may also get less mention due to the apparent lower attendance...
This is considerable better than the three Furthur shows I have seen to date, I believe, and I left happy every time.

Upon Furthur Review
Despite a dubious pre-show event resulting in me practically running away from the shirtless guy in 318 who appeared to have a colostomy bag taped to his bare abdomen, this show had some exceptional components to it.
I concur that Any Road & Big Bad Blues were very good renditions.
The jam in Cassidy didn't hit my aural taste buds the right way, but I seem to have recovered sufficiently.
For me, the gem came with the China>Scarlet>Trucking>New Speedway. I mean, how great is that? I remember when New Speedway was reintroduced to the lineup and, in particular, the one from Hampton in '92 that resulted in my jaw dropping off my face (anyone seen it?). I wish they carried the harmonies at the end on a bit longer; two hours more would suffice :)
Anyway, a great start to what would be my first NYE run after all these years.

Great Show, Great Recording!
I had the time of my life at this show. The people were really nice. Heidi from Santa Barbara, it was nice hanging with you and watching the sign language interpreter, and no I am not a woman. I hope to see you at Bobby's show at the Fox.
We moved around a bit. The sound up top was good, but I could feel Phil's bass much more on the dance floor. Those two Phil-bombs at the end were so cool; we were near the stage for those ones. Between sets I stood in a sweaty line to get the hologram poster and a blanket. Some merch connoisseur in front of me bought 400 dollars worth of posters while wearing cotton gloves. I'm sorry was was breathing down your neck, but I'm just an amateur.
I personally like to see Furthur on their furst (spelling pun intended) days. They have more energy. On October 7, 2011 in Monterey was more lively than October 8, 2011 in Monterey. Both Monterey and the New Years Shows at the Bill Graham were at the end of tours where the band is ready to take a break.
Furthur, thank you for blowing my mind/soul/body once again.

Don't let this be overlooked
Folks, don't let this one be lost or overlooked! The 3 show run was as good as it gets and this night should not be underestimated! They came out of the chute ready to go with that intro Jam into Help and all the transitions in the 1st set were so tight. Band very relaxed and the roomy crowd was dialed in. Beautiful versions of Weather Report Suite, Unbroken Chain, Standing on the Moon, and a nice greasy Truckin > New Speedway. Loved the Phil Bomb in that late Slipknot jam too! Don't miss this one despite the wonderful next two nights! GREAT RUN!

Let me be the first.
To say thank you. The sound this night was perfect and it sounds like you captured it that way. Highlights are the help slip franklins sandwhich of the whole show. Cassidy was smokin. The weather report suite > let it grow was just great.
Then there was big bad blues. I've watched the song grow just like this band this by far is the best version. Most of the songs in this first night were played with skill and knowledge of them. The second set is a set of songs that I'd never thought I'd here in one set. And they all fit perfectly. Check out the big bad blues atleast. Great show even better recording that I can listen to over and over again. Keep it up nakguy!
